PUNE: The state forest department has started a survey aimed at improving the ghat section road leading to the Sinhagad Fort so that chances of accidents could be minimised. PMPML e-buses have had close shaves twice since the service was introduced on May 2.
Senior forest department officials told TOI that the upcoming monsoon was critical and the movement of buses would depend on the condition of the ghat section.
“We don’t intend to shut down the bus services in the rainy season. We will, however, not have any option if the ghat section witnesses problems because of the rain,” said Pune’s deputy conservator of forest (DCF) Rahul Patil on Sunday.
The official said convex mirrors will be installed at several spots on the ghat section so that drivers can see the approaching buses.
“We will also be looking at the option to widen the roads wherever we can so that the bus drivers can utilise its width to the maximum. We are trying our best to ensure that the survey is completed soon and based on the report, the work can start at the earliest. The boundaries along the ghat section are also being looked at,” the official said.
On Monday, department officials and a PMPML team will inspect the ghat section and chalk out immediate plans for the safety of the visitors.
