PUNE: Day and night temperatures are expected to increase over parts of Maharashtra, including Pune, after around March 7-10, as transition from winter to summer starts.
Night temperatures are likely to be on the higher side over nort-central Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune, after March 3, model forecasts have indicated. Extended range forecasts from IMD indicate that there was likely to be a gradual rise in the minimums over most parts of the country as compared to the current week after March 3.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the minimum temperatures during March 4-10 were likely to be near normal or slightly below normal over most parts of state, including areas in Konkan, and above or near normal over north-central Madhya Maharashtra.
Though day temperatures have risen over most parts of Maharashtra, they have been near normal or slightly above. The week starting from March 4 could see a further spike in day and night temperatures in Maharashtra.
Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather forecasting division, IMD Pune, said the minimums were likely to be on the higher side in parts of Maharashtra during the next few days, barring a slight nip in mornings. Higher minimums are due to the consecutive western disturbances affecting the Western Himalayan region. He said, “The easterlies in central India are preventing penetration of the cold, northerly winds into Maharashtra, resulting in the higher temperatures.”
