PUNE: Chakan police are searching for six men, who visited Mhalunge village in a car, and opened fire at a 21-year-old eatery owner, Vaibhav Arun Gaikwad (21) of Mhalunge around 11.40pm on Thursday.
Gaikwad, who escaped unhurt, lodged a complaint in this regard with the police on Friday morning.
Police have established the identities of four car occupants and the reason behind the firing of a bullet is not known.
Police said that Gaikwad runs an eatery in Mhalunge and had returned home from the eatery after the day’s work when the incident took place.
Sub inspector Vilas Gosavi of Chakan police told TOI, “The reason behind the attack is not known but the preliminary investigations revealed that a few days ago, Gaikwad’s car had brushed against an autorickshaw in the Mhalunge area. Following this accident, Gaikwad and the autorickshaw driver had picked up a fight with each other. Both had issued threats of dire consequences to each other then”.
Gosavi said, “On Thursday night, Gaikwad returned home in his car and he alighted from the car. At this moment, another car came to the spot. However, Gaikwad friend’s who was passing from the site became suspicious and yelled Gaikwad’s name and asked him to run. Gaikwad again ran towards his car. His friend after alerting him sped away from the spot on his scooter”.
“The car, in which the six persons were traveling went back to the road and one of the car occupants fired a bullet in Gaikwad’s direction”, he said. “The bullet did not hit anyone. The car then sped away from the spot”, he said.
“We have registered a case of rioting and attempt to murder against the six men,” he said.
