KALYAN: Around 85 turtles were found dead at Gauripada lake in Kalyan on Saturday.
The locals spotted the dead turtles and informed the forest department team. With the help of animal lovers, the forest dept officials rescued 8 turtles alive by Saturday evening.
The locals claimed that since Friday they spotted turtles dying. However, on Saturday when they found large numbers of dead turtles floating on the bank of lake, they informed local Ex-BJP corporator Daya Gaikwad who informed to forest team.
The forest team reached at the spot by Saturday evening and rescued 8 turtles alive from lake and found around 85 of them dead.
A forest officer told TOI, "To find out exact cause of turtles' death, we have informed the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board officials to get the water sample tested to find if it was polluted or there was any other reason behind the death of turtles".
