Collingwood midfielder Tom Mitchell is set to miss another six to eight weeks of AFL action after undergoing foot surgery.
Mitchell hasn't played since the Anzac Day draw with Essendon in round seven, with the plantar fascia injury in his left foot becoming a lingering issue.
The 31-year-old has now undergone surgery in a bid to fix the problem, ruling him out until the back part of the home-and-away season.
It continues a rough run of luck for Mitchell, who was hospitalised last month to have his appendix removed.
"Tom has undergone a minor procedure to address the plantar fasciitis he has been managing," Collingwood's high-performance manager Jarrod Wade said in a statement.
"Following further consultation, surgery was the best option to help Tom regain full function in his foot.
"Tom will have a period of rest and recovery post-surgery before commencing a return to play program where we expect to see him return to the game in the back end of the season."
Collingwood have been battered by injuries this campaign.
Jamie Elliott, Jordan De Goey, Scott Pendlebury, Brody Mihocek, Mason Cox and Dan McStay are among the big names in the Magpies' sick bay.
Collingwood (6-2-4) will be back in action on Monday when they take on Melbourne in the King's Birthday blockbuster at the MCG.
