Magnitude 7.5 earthquake strikes off Japan's northern coast, injuring 33

A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck off northern Japan late on Monday, causing 33 injuries, light damage and triggering a tsunami alert which was later lifted.

At least 33 people were injured, one seriously, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency said. Most of them were hit by falling objects, public broadcaster NHK reported.
