Matt Murray may have initially found love on Married At First Sight UK but he didn't get his happy ever after and even refused to be part of the reunion.
The Yorkshire native, 32, had initially appeared on the programme and married Gemma but soon noticed he had a romantic spark with Whitney.
Following his heart, he announced he was leaving Gemma and had hoped to start a romance with Whitney – with the two revealing they were madly in love after just one week.
Things weren't to last as it was revealed during the first episode of the reunion Matt and Whitney had split.
Despite his former flame breaking down in tears as they discussed their split, it later emerged that Matt had withdrawn from the rst of filming midway through.
Love expert Mel Schilling explained: "Before we go on, Matt will be bowing out of proceedings for the rest of this evening.
"Whitney will be staying with us but we will be respecting Matt's wishes to take some time away from the group," as the group looked on in confusion.
Before the shock revelation, during a piece to the camera, Matt said: "I don't know what the future holds for me and Whitney.
"I think it would be a shame to have Whitney in my life in any way shape or form."
Whitney added: "I'm intrigued about Matthew and I's futures, it's been a wild journey, it's mad but no regrets," as she burst into tears.
Reflecting on their break up, Whitney said: "I just want you to be whole, I'm going to be here, no matter what."
"As difficult as it must have been for you, I appreciate you being there, in those sticky and difficult moments that I've had," responded Matt.
Visibly emotional, Whitney was consoled by Matt as their co-stars revealed there was still "so much love" between the pair.
Whitney explained that it was the long distance which led to their split but also added she had "cut and run too many times", before going on to say: "I'm never going to regret anything that we went through, I still have love for Matthew for sure."
Matt added: "Erm. Coming out of the experiment we spent a lot of time together to start with, didn't we? Whitney came up to mine, I went down to Whitney's.
"I just think we hit a few boundaries. It's s**t. It was, it was s**t."
The couple said the first moments outside the show were "spot on" but as time went on cracks started to show, and Whitney revealed the real reason for their split.
As the episode aired, Matt admitted the final episode was the most challenging for him to film as he shared images from the reunion and wrote: "The hardest day of the entire process for me.
"I wish every one all the very best for the future. I hope everyone finds their peace".
