MAFS Intruder Chris Robinson Explains Why He Went On The Show With Two Kids On The Way

MAFS' Chris Robinson and Sam Stanton

Married At First Sight (MAFS) has featured over 100 brides and grooms since it first premiered in 2015, but there has never been anyone like Chris Robinson. In addition to being a part of the show’s fourth same-sex pairing, the 38-year-old farmer and gym owner entered the experiment with two kids on the way.

He explained that he had a child on the way via an overseas surrogate and another as a donor to his close friends, but was nervous to tell his partner Sam Stanton before they got to know each other. Thankfully, Sam took the news well in Monday night’s episode and said he was incredibly proud and excited for Chris — however, not everyone has been so positive.

Chris explains how he ended up on MAFS

Many viewers have questioned why Chris would sign up for a reality show with two kids on the way, especially without knowing if his match would be okay with it. The groom has now addressed the online confusion and told PEDESTRIAN.TV he was actually approached to be on MAFS rather than applying himself.

“So I was contacted on Instagram, I sent through a video, and then I was put on hold for a little bit, so I just put it in my ‘not happening’ pile and continued with my life. Then the producer called me and said, ‘Chris, we’ve got some really great news, we found you a match’, and they really wanted a gay couple to work,” he detailed.

“So yeah, sure, I had some reservations about doing it because the timing wasn’t great, but then also, there was a part of me that thought, what if they found me someone who is really matched with me and could be my husband? I’ve been looking for this forever, why don’t I try and give it a crack?”

Chris clears up confusion surrounding his fatherhood journey

While Chris had two kids on the way when he joined the reality show, he believes there’s been a misunderstanding from viewers about what it means to be a donor dad. He explained that his daughter, who was born late last year, doesn’t live with him full-time and he only sees her “once or twice a week”.

“The mother has full responsibility and decision-making for that child. I only donated my sperm,” he clarified. “I think people are mistaking the fact that it sounds like I’ve got two children coming, but that wasn’t the case.”

As for his surrogacy journey, Chris revealed that he had a failed attempt at transferring the embryo while he was filming MAFS, but is hoping to try again soon.

“Basically, they transfer the embryo, and if it’s successful, you’ve got nine months. For me, I’ve already set up the child’s room at my house, and I had already planned all that,” he shared.

“I did another transfer right at the end of filming, which was looking pretty good, but then the surrogate lost that. So currently, I’m still just a donor dad, and I’m starting the surrogacy program again.”

So far, things are looking good for Sam and Chris’ relationship in the experiment now that they’ve addressed the baby-sized elephant in the room. It might not be the most conventional storyline, but thank god for some positive same-sex representation on MAFSit’s been a long time coming.
