MAFS Fans Reckon This Groom’s Wedding Mishap Was ‘Staged’ For Reality TV: ‘Good Job’

While ASMR is a ‘yuge thing on the internet, one Married At First Sight (MAFS) 2026 bride has been left reeling after her groom was literally smacking chewy during their vows. On top of that, the bloke was bloody late to his own wedding that he didn’t even organise!! However, some fans reckon it could all be for the MAFS plot.

This article contains Married At First Sight 2026 spoilers. You can choose to leave or stay.

ICYMI, MAFS for 2026 has officially kicked off, and we’ve already got a villain groom and a cheeky prank that has rubbed some folks the wrong way.

In Tuesday night’s episode, we were introduced to a new couple: Luke Fourniotis and Mel Akbay.

While the pair seemed perfect on paper — with Luke looking for that “feminine energy” partner, and Mel looking for that great hunk of manly spunk — their wedding was quite the letdown.

To give you a quickie recap on the buffoonery that cracked on, Luke was unfortunately late to his MAFS wedding after he forgot to bring the rings. As a result, Mel walked down the aisle without a groom in sight.

After waiting, waiting, and more waiting, Luke finally rocked up, and unfortunately, their first meeting was marred by his tardiness.

To make things worse, while Mel was reading her vows, Luke was chewing on a piece of gum. I’m talking mouth open, chewing, like those folks who produce ASMR content on TikTok.

When it was time for him to share his vows, he ended up handing the chewed-up gum to his sisters. LIKE RAW. Like straight from the jaw, babes.

Do you clock the gum??? (Image source: 9Now)

Throughout the wedding, Mel expressed during her confessionals that his lateness as well as his gum chewing during the vows had given her the ick!

Fans react to MAFS’ Luke rocking up late to his wedding to Mel

Initially, fans had a mixed bag of reactions to Luke’s tardiness. Some even described the incident as “awkward”.

However, some folks have speculated that the drama was manufactured by producers to spice up Mel and Luke’s storyline!

And the chewing?

Well… let’s just say, the folks were on Mel’s side for this piece of tea.

Look, as someone who’s dating in Sydney, I’ve got my fair list of icks. However, I wasn’t expecting “smacking gum during the wedding day” to make it on there in 2026!!!

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, ‘cos you know, nerves, but yikes!

Married At First Sight 2026 continues tomorrow on Channel Nine and 9Now at 7.30pm.
