MAFS’ Chris Nield Is Beefing With Katie Johnstone & The Leaked Texts Are Juicy

The new season of Married At First Sight (MAFS) may have only just kicked off, but one groom has already found himself in the centre of a social media storm. Chris Nield has been labelled this season’s “villain” thanks to his blunt on-screen behaviour and outrageous comments, including telling producers in his audition video that his “turn-offs” are “fake tan” and “needy and fat people”.

As well as being called out by viewers online, 2025 bride Katie Johnstone shared a tearful video this week reacting to his MAFS audition clip. She slammed the reality show for casting the 31-year-old construction supervisor and claimed that his bride has been “put in harm’s way intentionally for views”.

In a twist, Chris revealed to PEDESTRIAN.TV that Katie had actually messaged him about the video before posting it.

“I just find it funny that before she made that video, she reached out to me and tried to persuade me to do a podcast with her about how much I’d changed and grown, and then she still wants to come and target me and do all her sort of attention-seeking thing as well,” he said.

“So it’s really contradicting the way some of these people react to what they’re saying on TV and try to bring themselves to light and to media attention.”

Katie reveals her private messages with MAFS’ Chris

Appearing on the premiere episode of PEDESTRIAN.TV’s brand new reality TV podcast Villain Edit, Katie doubled down on her criticism of Chris and described his behaviour on the show as “horrendous”.

“His superiority complex is off the charts, and people hate that. I hate that. I think it’s disgusting,” she said. “The poor woman he gets matched with him, my gosh.”

She also confirmed that yes, she did reach out to Chris prior to making the video, and explained that his MAFS co-star Bec Zacharia had encouraged her to reach out to him.

“Bec said he’s done a lot of growing, he’s done a lot of changes,” she detailed. “And Chris said too in our text exchange that ‘I’ve moved away from my bad influences’.”

Given her background in behavioural science, Katie said she was interested in speaking with Chris to see if he could take any accountability for his wrongdoing instead of blaming his mates and “footy team culture”.

“I was like, in essence, ‘If you’re genuinely apologetic, I think in showcasing your growth, it might be able to soften the negativity. I wish my match had done that early on. It would have been able to change his circumstances’,” she detailed.

“‘I think we should have a chat. Considering it would be with me, the victim of the same thing, I think maybe it would land. I’m not going to go out of my way to add fuel to the fire, I’m more interested in the behavioural science side of things, self-discovery, personal development. I think an apology would also help’. And he never replied to it.”

Katie went on to claim that while Bec told her Chris has grown as a person, his other co-stars (including his match, Brook Crompton) have said otherwise.

She also revealed that she’s cut off all contact with Chris, adding: “I’ve since blocked him because I don’t want anyone like that have access to me.”

Viewers will have to stay tuned to see how Chris and Brook’s relationship unfolds in the experiment, but if online spoilers are anything to go by, things are about to get messy.
