After going viral with his diva antics at the start of the season, Gia Fleur’s bestie Wil Thompson made his much-anticipated return to Married At First Sight (MAFS) last night for Family & Friends Week.
Wil rocked up with Gia’s mum Silvana and Scott McCristal’s friends Paige and Matt, and the meeting quickly escalated from “a lunch with six friends” to a full-blown interrogation. Paige and Matt quickly grilled Gia on parenting and long-distance, and even threw a curveball when they compared her to Scott’s ex — which left her fuming.
Now, Wil has revealed to PEDESTRIAN.TV that the encounter was actually much more intense than what was shown on TV.
“They cut so much. It was only meant to be a two-hour thing, but we actually sat there for like four hours,” he shared.
Gia’s interrogation
Wil explained that he and Silvana attended the lunch feeling excited to catch up with Gia and Scott and avoid causing any drama, but Paige and Mat appeared to have a different approach in mind.
“It was like, ‘Oh my god, hi! Woo! Yay! We’re together again! This is fun! Let’s have a champagne! Tell us everything!’, and then all of a sudden they were like, ‘Are you gonna live in the Gold Coast?’ and ‘Is Gia a better version of your ex?’,” he detailed.
He said that he could tell Gia “got uncomfortable straight away” and her mum became “quite upset” about how Scott’s friends confronted her, and the entire lunch was “really frustrating”.
“Technically, Silvana was the only family there and she couldn’t even get a word in,” he recalled. “She wanted to talk about him becoming a stepfather, and she actually got emotional because we couldn’t speak. It was all about Gia’s appearance and if she was gonna fit into the friendship group.”
Wil’s doubts about Gia and Scott’s relationship
Wil said that, eventually, he was able to ask Scott about how he felt raising Gia’s daughter, and he gave a positive response that viewers didn’t get to see.
“He seemed like he was ready for it and wanted to meet Gia’s daughter and spend time with her and create a relationship,” he said. “We also talked about how his life was going to blend into that, because he is such a ‘4am gym, work, home, bed’ kind of guy. So not only was Gia gonna have to pick up and move, but he had to have all these massive changes.”
Although he said all the right things, Wil confessed that he left the lunch feeling uncertain about Gia and Scott’s future after spotting some red flags.
“I was asked in my voxie if I thought Gia and Scott were gonna last, and I was like, ‘I have really big doubts now’. That wasn’t shown,” he admitted.
“The fact that he wasn’t interrupting his friends and telling them to call it, it just kept going and going and going, and we were like, is someone going to step in? Can a producer jump in right now and change the topic? Because it was just getting really uncomfortable how much they were talking about her appearance.”
Family & Friends Week is set to continue in Tuesday night’s episode, but I think we can all agree that there aren’t any side characters as iconic as Wil this season. If only he were allowed to pull a Brook and gatecrash a Dinner Party — now THAT would be great TV.
