There has been a large explosion at a building in Madrid, with pictures showing a large amount of smoke in the area. Three storeys of the building at the centre of the blast were said to be affected.
Firefighters and police rushed to a building in central Madrid, after an explosion in the upmarket Salamanca area of the city. Two schools are near the spot where the explosion occurred, reported the Daily Mirror.
According to local news outlet Levante, multiple people are feared trapped in rubble after the devastating blast .

It has not yet been confirmed whether if anyone has been injured or killed, though local reports suggest at least 6 people were injured in the incident. Footage from the scene posted to Twitter pans around streets shrouded by smoke, with debris lining the roads and footpath.
Firefighters are reportedly working inside while the Servicio de Asistencia Municipal de Urgencia y Rescate - Spain's specialised emergency system, worked to treat several people injured in the blast. The facade of the building appeared to have been completely destroyed by the explosion.
In January last year an explosion occurred in a building in Madrid which caused it to partially collapse. It killed four people and wounded ten others.
