Madonna teases fans that her ‘scrapped’ biopic is back on track

Madonna has teased fans with a string of images that strongly hint that her “cancelled” biopic is back on track.

The Material Girl shared images of herself with Ozark and Inventing Anna actress Julia Garner, who beat the likes of Florence Pugh and Euphoria stars Alexa Demie and Sydney Sweeney last June to play the singer in the film.

But this January, it was reported that the project had been axed because Madonna, who was set to direct the movie, would be preparing for her Celebration world tour.

However, the 64-year-old singer has given fans hope that it’s all going forward again after sharing a series of photos to her Instagram Story on Tuesday night of her and Garner enjoying each other’s company.

In the snaps, Garner, 29, is seen with her hair cut short and platinum blonde like the star’s was in the eighties, as the pair share a hug.

Madonna captioned the post, which also showed the pair both eating French fries, was captioned: “B**** we’re Madonna!” accompanied by crying-laughing emojis.

The star’s Celebration Tour kicks off in North America in July, before it hits the UK and Europe in October 2024.

The 84-show tour is the singer’s 12th, but her first retrospective greatest hits show.

Reports had stated that there was uncertainty of the film’s future because the star would be stretched too thin.

Garner said of the rumours in an interview at the time: “I don’t want to tell too much. I want to keep things – yeah, fingers crossed.”

Auditions for the biopic took place in February 2022, with auditionees reportedly taking part in a gruelling Madonna “bootcamp” overseen by the pop queen.

Madonna called the process, including creating the script for the film, “the most draining, challenging experience I’ve ever had”.
