Madonna slams critics as she shows off results of 'surgery' now swelling 'has gone down'

Madonna has gushed over her youthful appearance as she joked that "swelling from surgery has gone down".

Taking to Twitter on Monday, the Material Girl hitmaker made fun of her 'ageist and misogynistic' critics who have repeatedly mocked her appearance.

In a selfie shared on social media, Madonna showed off her flawless features as she posed for the camera wearing an oversized navy shirt and distressed jeans.

The 64-year-old wore light pink eyeshadow and a nude lipstick, styling her bright orange hair in braids. Madonna completed her look with a black cap which read: "Spiritually hungry".

Captioning the post, she wrote: "Look how cute i am now that swelling from surgery has gone down. Lol."

Madonna's fans were loving the new snap, with one person labelling her: "The Queen of the Universe!"

Another commented: "Slay queen," while a third fan added: "I only see a powerful woman thriving and minding her business."

One fan tweeted: "You are one hot Ledgend Maddy!!" Someone else wrote: "Trolling or being honest? Doesn’t matter. This is the realest tweet ever. Yes, you do look cute."

Madonna was forced to address her critics following her appearance at the Grammys earlier this month.

The music icon paid tribute to Sam Smith and Kim Petras for making history at the music awards and explained how disappointed she was that the focus was on her face rather than the words she said.

Madonna told her Instagram fans she is "caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in."

She also reminded critics she has "never apologized for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress and I’m not going to start."

The Queen of Pop wrote: "Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech which was about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim- Many people chose to only talk about Close-up photos of me Taken with a long lens camera By a press photographer that Would distort anyone’s face!!"

Madonna added: "Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny That permeates the world we live in.

"A world that refuses to celebrate women pass the age of 45 And feels the need to punish her If she continues to be strong willed, hard-working and adventurous."

She finished: "I have never apologized for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress and I’m not going to start.

"I have been degraded by the media since the beginning of my career but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come."
