Madonna announces extra London date for The Celebration tour - here's how to get tickets

Madonna will play an extra UK date to meet huge fan demand for her greatest hits tour, The Celebration, it has been announced.

Tickets for the new date, on Sunday October 15, will go on general sale via Ticketmaster and LiveNation from 10am on Friday morning alongside the first date.

The Queen of Pop is already set to play London's O2 Arena on October 14 as the first date of the European leg of her hugely-anticipated 35-city tour.

But fan speculation that a mysterious gap between the London date and later shows on mainland Europe might see additional dates added at the venue has proved correct - with her now also playing the UK capital the following night.

The news will come as a relief to thousands of fans who were left disappointed after the first pre-sale tickets for the initial UK gig sold out within minutes in a launch beset with problems for many.

Some fans were also disappointed at how high prices were to see the pop diva. The cheapest seats available cost £47.55 with prices rising up to £1,306.75 for chosen VIP packages.

But many fans only found pricier tickets available, although it's unclear whether that was because Ticketmaster's controversial dynamic pricing kicked in or simply that budget-conscious fans bought the cheaper options first.

The London date proved hugely popular with fans planning to travel from far and wide for the show, which will be a celebration of all her hits going back to when she erupted on the music scene in the early 1980s with her self-titled debut album.

She will also play Paris, Belgium, Stockholm and Amsterdam as well as dozens of American cities including two dates at New York's iconic Madison Square Garden.

She broke the news by posting a star-studded video to social media with a host of celebrity cameos including Diplo, Judd Apatow, Jack Black, Lil Wayne, Bob The Drag Queen and Amy Schumer.

She said: "I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for.”

General sale tickets for dates of the tour will be available from Friday, January 20 at 10am via both Ticketmaster and LiveNation.
