Madonna has faced criticism online after sharing a playful TikTok video in which she appeared to suggest she is gay.
The singer, 64, uploaded the clip on Sunday evening which saw her attempting to throw a pair of hot pink knickers into a bathroom bin. She captioned the clip: "If I miss, I'm Gay!"
Madonna took aim and missed by quite some distance. She then threw an arm in the air as she dramatically turned around.
While many users described the moment as "historic" and congratulated the Material Girl singer, others accused her of queer-baiting.
The term has been used to describe a celebrity marketing ploy where stars appear to hint that they identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community but don't act on it.
People took to Twitter after the video was uploaded to share their disappointment in the Queen of Pop.
One person wrote: "Madonna just came out as queer. I guess not being in the news for a few months did a number on her."
Another said: "Madonna queer baiting for relevance in 2022 is not something I expected," while a third added: "#Madonna queer bating is hardly news, she’s been doing it for 30 years, why are conversations happening about it??"
"We don’t invite her to the lgbt community," penned another.
Madonna's fans hit back at critics, with one person writing: "I thought it was pretty clear that Madonna is queer. Growing up that's the impression I always got.."
Another fan tweeted: "She’s been such a strong ally to the gay community for decades. She did things that no other celebrity was doing. ESPECIALLY FOR HIV/AIDS AWARENESS."
"Period madonna was always for the queers," one person commented while another added: "Madonna has always been queer. Always."
It's unclear whether Madonna was simply joking with the video, or actually making an announcement about her sexuality.
Madonna famously locked lips with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera during her performance at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.
She has also kissed Nicki Minaj, while more recently, she shared a kiss with Dominican rapper Tokischa.
The Like A Prayer singer has been romantically linked with a number of male stars too, including Dennis Rodman and Vanilla Ice.
She was previously married to Sean Penn for four years in the eighties, before they split and she later tied the knot with Guy Ritchie. The pair were married between 2000 and 2008.
