Madhya Pradesh: Three children drown in uncovered well in Dewas

INDORE: Three girls drowned in an uncovered well in Dewas district when they were out grazing goats on Saturday.

Police identified the victims as Sadhna Bhalavi, 6, Sandhya Kumre, 8, and Ishika Dhruve, 9. They were close friends and lived in Bhesun village, around 90km from the district headquarters.

The girls had gone out with the goats but didn’t return at the usual hour, triggering a frantic search by their families and neighbours. Villager Rajesh Dhruve said he had seen the girls going to a farmland so the search party moved there, police said.

Their bodies were found floating in the well that neither had a guard wall nor a cover. Villagers tried to rescue the girls but they had died. They informed police, who sent the bodies for post-mortem to a health centre in Satwas, police said. The Kantaphod police station has recorded the deaths and began investigations, police said. Additional SP Suryakant Sharma confirmed that the well didn’t have any cover but it has around 12 feet of water, where the girls died.
