Madhya Pradesh pharma college principal murder: Simrol police file chargesheet

INDORE: Simrol police, on Tuesday, filed a 283-page chargesheet against the 23-year-old accused in the murder case of a pharmacy college principal.

The police made student Ashutosh Shrivastav accused under sections 307, 302, 194-A, 201 of the IPC for attempt to murder, murder, commission of evidence and others in the Vimukta Sharma murder case.

ADPO Anand Nema told TOI, “The police produced a 283-page chargesheet against the accused student in the murder case of pharmacy college principal Vimukta Sharma.”

“The police named the student accused of murder, attempted murder, commission of evidence and others. The police also made 45 witnesses in the case,” said Nema.

Of those 45, statements of eight witnesses were recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC, state chargesheet.

The murder

The incident took place on February 20 at around 4.15pm, when principal Sharma was set on fire on the college campus in Simrol by her student Ashutosh Shrivastav.

Shrivastava threw a cigarette lighter at her after pouring a bucket full of petrol on her, when she was on her way home in the evening.

She was rushed to Gaurav Hospital, Indore, where doctors referred her to Choithram Hospital and Research Centre after primary treatment.

Sharma succumbed to her burn injuries in CHRC on February 25, when police added Section 302 against the accused student.

The accused attacked the principal after she refused to withdraw a case registered against him in which he is out on a bail.

The accused had stabbed a faculty member over an issue and pressured them to withdraw the case.

The police, during investigation, seized records of online transactions of Rs 789 done by students to buy petrol (Rs 700), bucket with cap (Rs 50), a pipe (Rs 39) and made shopkeepers witness in the case, stated ADPO Nema.

The police also recorded a dying declaration in front of tehsildar and it was also recorded by the investigating officer and made a video recording of it.

The police also seized evidence like bucket, pipe, two-wheeler, threatening chats, call records and others in relation to the case and produced it before court, added ADPO Nema.
