Madhya Pradesh: House of dacoit Kalli Gurjar’s relative razed in Morena

BHOPAL: Almost a week after dacoit Kalli Gurjar terrorized people in a Morena village, district administration on Monday demolished the house of Kalli’s close relative on charges of harboring wanted criminals.

Additional police force was deployed since the community members were opposed to the action.Kalli, who is listed in police files as a ‘daku’ and carries a bounty on his head, stormed into the village with his gang, a few days ago and beat up a girl’s family members, police said.

Kalli fashions himself in Bollywood style, far from the rustic ways of the original Chambal dacoits. He often has two rifles slung across his shoulders, a third in his hand, and a bandolier across his chest.

He claims to have fallen in love with a village girl living in a small hamlet in Pahargarh police station area, around 60km from Morena district headquarters. Her family has rejected his proposal and stands firm on their stand, backed by villagers.

Infuriated, Kalli had roughed up her uncle a few days ago. He and his gang fired several shots in the air and threatened to kill her family if she was not married to him. He is wanted by police in MP and UP and has several cases registered against him. Kalli is one of the last few dacoits left in Chambal. Most have surrendered or are in jail and several have been killed in police encounters over the years.
