INDORE: A man arrested by Burhanpur police from Pune last week in an online fraud case escaped from custody while the police were chasing his accomplices in Jharkhand.
A sub-inspector of Burhanpur police deputed to lead the manhunt in Jharkhand has been shifted to the police lines following the escape. The police said on Thursday that the accused Sahil, a resident of Pune, was taken to Jharkhand to help trace other accused in the case.
He had been arrested along with another man in connection with an online fraud in which a person from Burhanpur was duped of Rs40,000. A case had been registered at Lalbagh police station and after their arrest, both the accused had been sent to seven-day police remand.
