BHOPAL: Two girls from the same family drowned in Chambal river in Morena district on Friday evening while a third is missing and feared dead as well. Search teams are working through the night to trace her.
Anusuiya, Suhani, and Sadhana were aged 12-13 years and were first cousins. They belonged to the Kewat community and lived in Rahu village in Sabalgarh area, around 80km from the district headquarters.
Police believe one of the girls slipped into deep waters and started drowning. The other two were also swept away while making a desperate attempt to save her.
The cousins had taken their buffaloes to Chambal river on Friday and decided to take a dip too. It was 45 degrees Celsius in the region and the river looked inviting.
An hour later, a village boy spotted two bodies floating in the river and informed villagers. Divers retrieved the bodies of Anusuiya and Suhani. Sadhana is yet to be traced. Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar will be visiting the bereaved family on Sunday.
