Madelyn Cline’s ‘Outer Banks’ Beauty Routine

A modern day beauty icon, Madelyn Cline is beloved for her bronzed, glow-getting complexion (she swears by serum-based formulas), sultry eye looks (that truly mesmerise) and perfectly quaffed bombshell blowouts. Whilst it may be her striking looks that pull focus on the red carpet, she reveals she likes to keep things a little more low-key at home. Between filming her mega-hit Netflix series Outer Banks, the Revlon ambassador speaks with marie claire Australia to talk makeup must-haves, a skincare-first approach to beauty and filming season four of Outer Banks.

My beauty ethos… is good skincare equals good makeup. My skincare regimen is all about simplicity. Alongside my beloved moisturiser and sunscreen, I integrate a HigherDOSE Red Light Face Mask.

My favourite red-carpet look… is a smoky cat eye. My makeup artist Jen [Tioseco] and I always prioritise eyes and build everything else around that. At the recent Vanity Fair Oscars Party we dialled up the eye drama using the Revlon ColorStay Day To Night Eyeshadow Quad in Addictive and defined my eyes with the ColorStay Multiplayer Liquid-Glide Eye Pencil in Checkmate for the signature liner. The final touch was a few coats of mascara to make the eyes pop.

Day-to-day… I’ll always fall back on dewy, bronzed skin and a natural lip. I love the clean makeup trend.

To add colour… I love the Revlon Illuminance Gel Serum Blush, which gives that sun-kissed glow, and the Super Lustrous Lipstick in Daylight Delight. It’s hydrating and gives that perfect natural look I’m all about.

My beauty cupboard… would probably send anyone else into a coma because it’s so disorganised. But it is a controlled chaos; I know where everything is.

I find inspiration… everywhere: social media, classic beauty icons, my mom (she’s the queen of self-care) and experimenting on my own. I see makeup as a tool for self-expression; it’s truly about how I feel on the day.

While filming… I often have to tweak my routine. It’s crucial to keep my skin hydrated and protected. I rely heavily on … [sunscreen], since we’re always in the sun. Deep conditioning hair treatments have also become my best friend [on set].

Shooting the fourth season of Outer Bankswas the longest it has ever taken to film a season on the show. It has been so much fun to spend an extended period of time with the cast and crew. They really are family and I’m so grateful to share this experience with them. I hold this show very near and dear to my heart.

My Self-care looks like… “everything showers”, couch “rotting”, bingeing [reality TV series] Below Deck, spending time with my family, face masks, cooking, movies, candles, wine and naps. I’m very low-key and value the times I can unplug.

I feel most beautiful when… I check in with myself. Some days it looks like just [doing] skincare; other days it looks like high glam. It’s really just about doing what you can to feel your best self. Every day is different.
