Madeleine McCann's parents issue statement on her 20th birthday

Madeleine McCann's parents have issued a fresh statement about their missing daughter on what would have been her 20th birthday. Madeleine was three-years-old when she vanished from s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal in May 2007.

Kate and Gerry McCann will mark Madeleine’s birthday at a private family gathering today. In a Facebook post on the official Find Madeleine Campaign page, they wrote: “Happy birthday Madeleine! We love you and we’re waiting for you. We’re never going to give up.”

They also posted a video of photos taken on the trip and before. A caption underneath the clip reads: “Madeleine McCann is 20 years old today. She’s still missing, still missed and we are never going to give up trying to find her.”

Earlier this month, the family held a candle lit vigil to mark the 16th anniversary of Maddie's disappearance. Dr Fiona Payne, who was with the family when Madeleine disappeared, lit a candle and read the poem 'Hope is the thing with feathers' by Emily Dickinson.

Madeleine McCann, from Leicestershire, went missing on the evening of May 3, 2007, while on a family vacation in Portugal. At the time of her disappearance, Madeleine was just three years old. The case gained significant international media attention, making it one of the most widely reported missing persons cases in history.

Madeleine was on holiday with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, and her younger twin siblings in the resort town of Praia da Luz, Portugal. Her parents had left her and her siblings sleeping in their holiday apartment while they dined at a nearby restaurant. When her mother returned to check on them around 10pm, Madeleine was nowhere to be found.

Despite extensive searches and investigations by both Portuguese and British authorities, Madeleine's whereabouts remain unknown. The case has generated significant public interest and has received ongoing media coverage over the years. Numerous theories and speculations have circulated about what happened to Madeleine, but no conclusive evidence has been found to determine her fate. The case remains unsolved, and her parents continue to appeal for information that may lead to her discovery.
