Madeleine McCann's parents say they have "not given up hope" that their "beloved" daughter is "still alive" following the announcement that Portuguese authorities have declared a German man a formal suspect in her disappearance.

Kate and Gerry McCann welcomed the news in a statement on the Official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page on Friday.

They wrote: "Even though the possibility may be slim, we have not given up hope that Madeleine is still alive and we will be reunited with her".
