Mad Men actor Robert Morse has died at the age of 90.
The Massachusetts-born star was known for playing the role of Bertram Cooper in Mad Men between the years 2007 and 2015.
According to ABC7, Morse’s son Charlie confirmed the news of his father’s passing on Wednesday. Writer and producer, Larry Karaszewski, also penned a heartfelt tribute to his late friend on Twitter.
“My good pal Bobby Morse has passed away at age 90,” Karaszewski wrote on social media.
“A huge talent and a beautiful spirit. Sending love to his son Charlie & daughter Allyn. Had so much fun hanging with Bobby over the years – filming People v OJ & hosting so many screenings (How To Succeed, Loved One, That’s Life).”
Morse is best known for playing the role of New York businessman Cooper, the tie-bow clad co-founder of the Sterling Cooper agency in hit series Mad Men.
However, his Hollywood career started decades earlier after he appeared in numerous Broadway productions that propelled him to fame.
In 1962, the 5”5 actor earned himself a Tony Award after he starred at J. Pierrepont Finch in the production, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. He went on to reprise his role for the film adaptation in 1967. During the 60s, he also appeared in several films such as Quick, Before It Melts in 1964 and The Loved One in 1965.
Morse earned himself a second Tony Award in 1990 when he portrayed the figure, Truman Capote, in the production, Tru. He went on to win an Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Special in 1992 when he returned to the role for the PBS series American Playhouse.
The actor later found international fame when he took up the eccentric role of the ad agency co-founder in Mad Men. During his time on the show, he was nominated for five Emmy Awards and also shared a SAG Award that the Mad Men cast received for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series.
For his final appearance in Mad Men, the actor performed a large musical number to The Best Things in Life Are Free which marked the peaceful death of his character.
Tributes have continued to pour in as fans reflected upon the actor’s most iconic moments.
“Rest in Peace Robert Morse. Bert Cooper is one of the most surprising and thoughtful characters in fiction and I couldn’t imagine anyone else playing it. I think about this line and it’s delivery a lot,” wrote one Mad Men viewer.
Another wrote: “Woke up to the news that the great Robert Morse has died at the age of 90. May we all exit stage left the way he did on Mad Men RIP.”
