Macy's Shows Huge, Unusual Put Option Volume - Is M Stock Set to Drop or Is It Cheap Here?

There is a massive volume of in-the-money (ITM) Macy's Inc. (M) put options today. Do investors believe M will drop precipitously ahead of earnings, or is this a buying play? It could be both.

M is at $23.66 in midday trading, down slightly. Over th last two to four months, M stock has been essentially flat, as the Barchart chart below shows.
