Mackenzie Anderson murder accused Tyrone Thompson remains behind bars in Newcastle

A 22-year-old man charged with the stabbing murder of young mother Mackenzie Anderson in Newcastle has appeared briefly in court.

Tyrone Thompson was discharged from hospital on Monday morning after receiving treatment for an injured hand.

Mr Thompson faced Newcastle Local Court on charges of murder, aggravated enter dwelling with intent and breaching an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO).

Police were called to an apartment complex on Crebert Street in Mayfield on Friday night, after reports an armed man had broken into a unit.

Officers said 21-year-old Mackenzie Anderson was found with multiple stab wounds outside her home and could 'not be saved.

Mr Thompson appeared briefly before Magistrate Janine Lacy on Monday, and no plea was entered.

He did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.
