Mack Hansen: 'Leinster should be 's****ing themselves' as hot favourites at the Sportsground

Mack Hansen claims Leinster should be "s****ing themselves" as he insists that Connacht are ready to shock the rugby world by knocking the four-time champions out of Europe.

On a personal basis Hansen has enjoyed a fairytale first season with the westerners as his form earned him a quick-fire Ireland debut in this year's Six Nations - and a spectacular debut try against France.

But the flying Aussie winger is hoping that the magic doesn't end there, with the westerners reaching the Champions Cup knock-out stages for the first time and with the prospect of causing a sensation over two legs over their provincial rivals.

"We know we're probably seen as underdogs," said Hansen. "We're not going to really treat it like that, we're just going to play another game of rugby.

"The pressure is all on them, there is no pressure on us at all.

"We just have got to go out and play our game which is fantastic and those blokes, to be honest, they should probably be s****ing themselves a little bit with the expectation they're just going to roll us.

"That's perfect for us and hopefully the occasion can get to them while they are here."

But while Andy Friend has his Ireland contingent back - Hansen, Bundee Aki and Finlay Bealham will enhance his weaponry - Leo Cullen has serious firepower returning after the Six Nations, led by Johnny Sexton.

“Yeah definitely, look, they have pretty much just got the whole Ireland team at their disposal every day," said Hansen.

"They can bring off (Tadhg) Furlong and (Andrew) Porter and they bring on a 100 and something Test prop in Cian Healy.

"They have just got players at their disposal which is great for them and it is going to take a lot for us together. But it's definitely not impossible, though.

"I certainly feel like we're counting down to where we are ready to go out there and shock everyone and show what this club is about. We're not easy beats at all.

"Like, it's never easy coming to the Sportsground and getting the wind here - with the p***ing down rain and the wind in on you sideways.

"We love it here and we're very confident that we can put out a performance."

The 23-year-old took a punt when he decided to leave the Brumbies to move to Galway last summer.

But it has paid off in spades for Hansen and he is bursting to repay the faith Andy Friend placed in him.

"It means everything," he said, refreshed after a week's break after the Six Nations.

"They took a chance on me to bring me over here and to pick me for the first round as well when I’d had a couple injuries leading up and it probably made more sense to go elsewhere.

"They've put a lot of faith in me and a lot of trust and I just want to do everything I can to repay them.

"I wouldn't be here without Connacht at all so it means everything - and I couldn't be happier to be at this club and be playing with the players I am playing with. I love it here."
