Machete-wielding man shot by police after confrontation at Grafton property

A man has been taken to hospital with stomach wounds after he was shot by police at a property in Grafton on the NSW North Coast.

NSW Police said officers responded to reports of an aggravated break and enter about midday on Tuesday.

Police said they found a 25-year-old man who had barricaded himself inside a room on the property.

Police said an officer fired his gun at the man when he allegedly confronted them with a machete. 

The man sustained injuries to his stomach and arm and has been taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Meanwhile, a crime scene was established and a critical incident team from Northern Region Police District will continue to investigate.

Police said the investigation would be subject to an independent review.
