A large number of followers of Macherla MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy protested against the denial of a Cabinet berth to him, at Macherla, Rentachintala and Durgi on Sunday.
They fumed at the injustice meted out to him, saying that he had been a loyal soldier of the YSR Congress Party.
Macherla municipal chairman T. Kishore, councillors and other leaders led the protests, warning that they would resign to their respective posts if Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy is not taken on board.
The protesters burnt tyres at some places, venting their anger at the neglect of their leader.
Several ZPTC and MPTC members of the ruling party offered to resign after their hopes on induction of Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy into the Cabinet faded.
