The New England Patriots reportedly traded quarterback Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round pick on Sunday.
On Thursday, the Patriots made the transaction official, prompting Jones to take to his account on X (formerly Twitter) to thank New England’s fans and the organization in a classy post.
“The last three seasons with the New England Patriots are years I will cherish for the rest of my life,” Jones penned. “I will always be grateful for my time in New England and for the opportunity to start my career in the NFL.”
Jones, the 15th pick in the 2021 NFL draft, went on to thank Patriots chairman and chief executive officer Robert Kraft, as well as former coach Bill Belichick, his teammates and the organization’s fans.
Jones, a native of Jacksonville, spent the first three seasons of his NFL career in New England, producing mixed results.
The Alabama product enjoyed a strong rookie year in 2021, helping the Patriots to a postseason appearance while throwing for 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, earning Pro Bowl honors in the process.
Over the course of the next two seasons, Jones regressed and was benched five times by the franchise, all but signaling the end of his tenure as the team's QB1.
The trade to Jacksonville is a homecoming for Jones, as well as a chance to reset his career as a backup behind Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence.
Jones has completed 66.1% of his passes for 8,918 yards, 46 touchdowns and 36 interceptions in 42 career starts.
