One lane of the M62 was forced to shut this morning after a car hit the central reservation of the carriageway.
Merseyside Police confirmed that one lane of the busy motorway was shut eastbound from junction five to junction six due to a vehicle aquaplaning and hitting a barrier. The force blamed a heavy downpour of rain that affected the motorway.
Police also thanked a van driver who pulled over and helped to tow the damaged car from the live lanes. Taking to Twitter, the Roads Policing Unit said: "Patrols have been dealing with a vehicle that aquaplaned following a heavy downpour on the M62 and struck the central reservation.
