Drivers are being warned to expect long delays due to a motorway closure this weekend.
National Highways confirmed it will be closing a section of the M56 in Runcorn to install a new 67 metre bridge across the motorway. The motorway will be closed in both directions this weekend as a replacement bridge along the A533 is lifted into place.
The large steel structure, which will replace the existing A533 Expressway bridge, has been constructed off-site nearby and is now ready to be lifted into position. The bridge installation will require a full weekend closure of the M56 in both directions between junctions 11 and 12.

The closure will be in place from 9pm Friday, October 28 until 6am Monday, October 31. The A533 Expressway bridge will also be closed in both directions at the same time.
Clearly signed diversions will be in place and motorists are asked to follow these during the closures. Other project work will also be undertaken to reduce the need for additional future closures.
Long delays are expected and motorists are being advised to avoid the area or allow extra time.
