There are queues stretching more than four miles after a seven car pile-up on the M56 during rush hour. The multi-car crash happened on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway in Wythenshawe at around 4.30pm today.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said seven cars were involved in the smash between junction 4 for Wythenshawe and junction 3 for Benchill.
Initial reports indicate that no one has been seriously injured a GMP spokesperson said. Two lanes were closed as highways officers dealt with the aftermath. All vehicles were recovered with the lanes being re-opened shortly after 6pm.

However, there are warnings that there are still long delays in the area. National Highways said there was currently around four and a half miles of congestion stretching back to near junction 6, the Four Seasons Roundabout in Hale.
"Please add an extra 30 to 35 minutes journey time" they said. The traffic information service said. The traffic service Inrix said delays could be up to 40 minutes.
