A section of the M56 will be closed in both directions over the coming weekend to allow for a new bridge to be lifted into place.
Drivers are being warned to avoid the Runcorn stretch of the highway in both directions between junctions 11 and 12 as the new 67 metre-long bridge is installed. National Highways say clearly marked diversions will be in place during the work, which is expected to take a full weekend to complete.
Delays are expected, and motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys on this route.

The new bridge will replace the existing A533 Expressway bridge, and has been constructed off-site nearby. Over the weekend it will be lifted into position.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible, and follow all marked diversions. The closure will be in place from 9pm on Friday October 28 until 6am on Monday October 31. The A533 Expressway bridge will also be closed in both directions at the same time.
Other project work will also be undertaken to reduce the need for additional future closures.
