The M56 was closed earlier today after a multi car smash near Manchester Airport.
Traffic was at a standstill after two lanes were shut off between junction six and junction seven on the westbound carriageway, close to Manchester Airport, on the morning of July 15. According to National Highways, queues were as long as three miles at the height of the disruption.
In a tweet they said: "The #M56 westbound between J6 ( #ManchesterAirport ) and J7 ( #Altrincham ), 2 lanes (of 3) are closed due to a multi-vehicle collision. There is currently approx. 3 miles of congestion on approach, causing delays of 30 minutes above usual journey times."
