M5 closed by police due to 'concern for welfare' incident near Bristol

The M5 was closed by police this morning (July 15) due to a 'concern for welfare' incident near Bristol.

Traffic was held in both directions in the Somerset area between J24 and J25 until about 6am. The road was reopened after police arrived on the scene and took the person into their care.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "It was a concern for welfare incident.

"The individual was taken into the care of officers. The M5 was fully reopened at about 6am."

Later on the M5, a crash between a car and a van caused traffic to be held again. The collision, which happened on the southbound route between J13 and J14 in the Gloucestershire area, caused queues for drivers until the road reopened at about 8am.
