Cwmbran-based Fitzgerald Plant Services has acquired the Old Pipe Works in Cwmffrwdoer, Pontypool in a deal brokered by property management company, M4 Property Consultants.
The rail and construction engineering company acquired the 78,000 sq ft secure yard with workshop and offices as it looks to relocate its transport division.
Director Chris Fitzgerald said the Pontypool site will provide plenty of secure space for vehicle storage and workshop facilities.
He said: “We aim to have the new facilities operational very shortly and will then relocate our transport department enabling us to allocate space on Avondale Industrial Estate for a new dealership we have won for an international crushing and screening equipment manufacturer.”
The acquisition of the Pontypool site, along with the purchase of another in Dudley, West Midlands, is part of the firm’s plans for growth and expansion.
It has recently won a series of new contracts and confirmed the renewal of existing ones with many of its clients located across the UK.
Since its inception in 2007, the company now employs over 100 staff, operating from its head office on Avondale Industrial Estate in Cwmbran and across a UK network of six depots.
Dan Smith, director of M4 Property Consultants who had negotiated the sale for the previous owners, said: “When we brought the property to market, we contacted Fitzgerald’s as we have known Chris and his team for some time and were aware that they were looking to expand.”
He added: “It was a perfect fit for both parties and the sale completed quickly. Fitzgerald’s really are a great example of a very successful local engineering company now operating on a national scale.”
