M3 closed after two lorries crash spilling 300 litres of fuel across motorway

  • A serious collision involving two lorries occurred on the M3 eastbound in Surrey around 4am on Tuesday between Junction 3 and Junction 2.
  • One heavy goods vehicle struck an overhead gantry while the other suffered a ruptured fuel tank, spilling 300 litres of diesel across the carriageway.
  • Both drivers managed to free themselves from their cabs and were treated by paramedics at the roadside.
  • National Highways confirmed the M3 eastbound requires emergency resurfacing due to road surface damage and will remain closed through the morning.
  • The closure has caused severe tailbacks towards Junction 4 and widespread gridlock on surrounding routes including the A322 and A30.
