M25 to close this weekend with drivers given ten-mile diversion warning

The M25 will be closed this weekend for a third time this year with drivers being warned of a ten-mile diversion.

The closure affects the busy motorway between Junctions 10 and 11 from 9pm Friday July 12 to 6am Monday July 15.

It’s partially closing as a new bridge at the roundabout of Junction 10 is installed, said National Highways.

It will likely affect those travelling to London for the televised Euros final, as well as those heading to Gatwick and Heathrow airports.

National Highways said in a warning: “Only travel if necessary. We’re grateful to all drivers who avoided previous closures and completed their journeys in other ways. We urge you to do the same again.

“If you do travel, expect delays and please leave a lot of extra time for your journey.”

A diversion route will be in place for both directions. From Junction 10 to Junction 11 it will be the northbound A3 to Painshill Junction, A245 towards Woking, and then A320 to M25 Junction 11.

In the other direction, motorists are advised to use the A320 south towards Woking, A245 towards Byfleet and Painshill junction, Southbound A3 to Junction 10.

It will mark the third of five full weekend closures of the M25 to take place, with a further two due later this year on dates that are yet to be announced.

National Highways made the unprecedented move of closing the motorway between junctions 10 and 11 in March, to demolish a bridge and install a gantry, bringing chaos to nearby roads.

Jonathan Wade, National Highways Senior Project Manager, said: “The previous two closures have gone well with significant progress being made during both.

“We would urge all drivers to follow the official diversion route as this is the best chance of reaching your destination in good time. Please ignore your satnavs and follow our diversion route instead.”
