Diversion routes have been released for Easter Sunday drivers travelling along the M1 after a stretch of the road in Leicestershire was closed in both directions. An ongoing police incident has led to the closure of the motorway between junction 21a for Leicester and junction 22 for Markfield.
It comes as thousands of drivers travel to see friends and family this Easter Sunday (April 9). Leicestershire Police has not released any details about the incident, but the force says the road will be closed until further notice.
The East Midlands division of National Highways has now released details of diversion routes for both northbound and southbound drivers. The agency says specialist teams are on their way to the scene to assist traffic officers in enforcing the closures.
