M&S has apologised after a woman claimed she was misgendered and had her hidden disability disregarded while shopping with her girlfriend. Tay Beales, 22, is due to move in with girlfriend Freya and the couple were looking in the store's homeware section.
Tay, who has epilepsy, wanted to use the disabled toilet at the store in Exeter's High Street on Tuesday (May 17), but was told by a member of staff that she couldn't use it because she 'was not disabled'. A sign on the toilet door said 'not every disability is visible', DevonLive reports.
Tay then said she was directed to the men's toilets but felt uncomfortable and then was stopped from going to the ladies' before being directed to the disabled toilets. The incident left her feeling 'embarrassed'.
