Lyndon Dykes has backed Michael Beale to be a Rangers success after ditching QPR just months after taking the job in a “crazy” few weeks for the London outfit.
Beale returned to Ibrox last week to replace sacked Gio van Bronckhorst, making the move back to Govan just over a year after he first left. Beale headed south to Aston Villa as part of Steven Gerrard’s coaching staff, but decided to go it alone last summer when the Rs came calling on him for the top job at Loftus Road.
Wolves made an approach to speak to Beale after they fired Portuguese coach Bruno Lage, but he declined the chance to speak to the Molinuex club, insisting that he owed QPR his loyalty after they gave him his break in management.
However, his stance changed just six weeks later when Rangers made their move. Beale jumped at the chance to sit in the Ibrox hotseat and penned a three-and-a-half deal. Scotland star Dykes admitted Beale’s departure was a blow, but loved working with him and believes he has what it takes to do well back in Glasgow.
“We all got on with the manager – he was great,” Dykes told the South London Press. He came in and knew what he wanted to do straight away – he was very firm, and his training sessions were very good. We were all disappointed to see him leave. It’s football, and it’s so crazy sometimes – it moves so quickly.
“An opportunity came up for him, and he decided to go for that. We all wished him all the best.
“I’m sure he will do great up there. He’s very highly spoken of in the football scene.
“Now we have to move forward in that and focus on ourselves. I’m sure he will be looking from afar and always keeping an eye on us and hoping we’re doing well.
“It’s been a bit of a crazy time. We all have to adjust, but that’s football – you can pick up your bags one day and be on the other side of the country.
“Now we have got a mentality where we want to prove everyone wrong and prove ourselves right. We are capable of doing it, we just have to have switched on heads and make sure we give it our all.”
