Luxury lodge holiday park plan for stunning Ayrshire coastline

Plans to create a coastal holiday park featuring 'luxury lodges' on the edge of Irvine have been submitted to North Ayrshire Council.

The proposal would see 35 caravans and seven luxury lodges dotted on almost two hectares of spare land at Dundonald Camp, Auchengate.

Four semi-detached two storey homes would also be built on the plot, according to documents submitted to the local authority.

Landowner Forde Donaldson is seeking planning permission in principle for the tourism development which also proposes a new playpark for the area.

The site is situated east of the 76 homes currently within Dundonald Camp and adjacent to Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Course.

A supporting statement issued by agents Cogeo Planning & Environmental Services on behalf of Mr Donaldson says: "Dundonald Camp is proposed to be a desirable holiday location within the coastal region of Ayrshire that will provide visitors with seascape and landscape views and good links to nearby town centres and wider Ayrshire.

Land at Dundonald Camp could be transformed into a holiday hot spot (Google Maps)

"This tourist proposal would appeal to families searching for a relaxed holiday on the coast of Ayrshire in a prime location which also provides strong access links to the nearby towns of Barassie, Troon and Irvine.

"Luxury lodges would also appeal to families, groups of friends, or couples looking for a relaxing weekend break

"Additionally, the location would appeal to golfers who wish to stay close to Kilmarnock Golf Club and the many other links golf courses nearby.

The document goes on to state: "In addition to static caravans, the proposed development proposes 4no 3-bed and 3no 2-bed luxury holiday lodges.

"The 3-bed lodges each contain a hot tub within the rear decked areas to maximise viewpoints to the Isle of Arran.

"Further areas of enhancement for the wider Dundonald Camp are proposed (playpark and roadway frontage ) which are not included in the overall redline development boundary for the application.

"These enhancements are for the benefit of existing residents and site and are not presented or included as defined elements of the new main tourist/leisure development."

Planners will rule on the application in due course.

Dundonald Camp was set up by the Army just before the start of World War II and became closely associated with RAF Dundonald.
