Set on the Spanish paradise island Tenerife, Iberostar Grand El Mirador is proof luxury and sustainability are not mutually exclusive.

An adults-only hotel, Iberostar Grand El Mirador imbues its guests with a sense of total comfort and relaxation from the moment they step onto the premises. Idyllically set alongside the Duque sandy beach, the hotel overlooks the bright blue of the Atlantic, while the unmistakable silhouette of Spain’s highest peak, the Teide mountain and National Park, looms behind it.

Fly direct from the U.S. to Tenerife
Tenerife is the largest island of the Canary archipelago. Despite being technically part of Spain, the Canary Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean, just 62 miles off the northwest coast of the African mainland and more than 1,000 miles from Madrid. Their spectacular beaches and year-round mild, subtropical climate have made the Canary Islands a popular travel destination—especially among Europeans in search of some winter sunshine.
Starting this summer, a new group of travelers will be vying for a spot on the sun-drenched Canarian sands, as United Airlines launches the first non-stop flights from the U.S. to Tenerife. As of June 9th, the U.S.-based airline will offer a three-times weekly service between Newark (EWR) and Tenerife South (TFS).

One of Tenerife’s most exclusive resorts
Iberostar Grand El Mirador is one of Tenerife’s most exclusive resorts, with its subtropical gardens and stunning views of the surrounding volcanic landscapes and Atlantic Ocean. The exterior is all columned arches and breezy patios while the inside is a maze of corridors off which the 124 spacious suites are located. A glamorous, semicircular terrace connects directly to one of the hotel’s huge outdoor swimming pools.
Other standout features include three restaurants, serving Canarian, Spanish and international specialties, a "Star Prestige" VIP area, with an exclusive, quiet solarium and pool, as well as concierge assistance, butler service and two open bars, and a 10,000-square-foot spa with a thermal circuit and an extensive selection of treatments on offer.
While this may sound like just another upscale resort—albeit a particularly charming one—what sets Iberostar Grand El Mirador apart is its commitment to sustainability.

Responsible tourism pioneer
The hotel is part of the Iberostar Group, a family-run Spanish company that owns more than 100 hotels in 16 countries. A responsible tourism pioneer, the company launched its Wave of Change program in 2017, with three key objectives: moving towards a circular economy, promoting responsible fish consumption, and improving coastal health.
The Iberostar Group is committed to becoming carbon neutral, having set a target to reach net zero by 2030. In addition to minimizing its carbon footprint, it will offset the emissions from its operations with nature-based solutions.
Iberostar Grand El Mirador has completely eliminated single-use plastics across all its operations. As part of its commitment to supply its hotels with 100% responsibly sourced fish and seafood by 2025, the Iberostar Group exceeded its target for 2021, achieving 88% consumption of responsible seafood products in its Spanish properties.

People and the environment
Iberostar is working to create a more responsible tourism business model that centers around people and the environment. With sustainability as the driving force, it has placed the circular economy at the center of its strategy. The group will be landfill free by 2025, while its energy-efficiency plan aims to reduce energy consumption by 8% this year and 35% by 2030. This will be achieved through hotel electrification projects and a growing focus on renewable energy, among other major initiatives.
People are also key to Iberostar’s responsible tourism approach and the hotel has introduced a series of awards that recognize the efforts of its teams to exceed the expectations of its customers by offering a quality product and service.

Using tourism to promote responsible growth
"We seek to use the potential that tourism has to promote responsible growth, which ensures the long-term viability and sustainability of our business and helps future generations to enjoy the beauty of our destinations," says Sandra Benbeniste, Iberostar Sustainability Director for EMEA (Europe & North Africa).
"Iberostar’s commitment to responsible tourism and the protection of our oceans is the backbone of our Wave of Change movement, which was born out of the philosophy of our family-run business: we believe in protecting people and natural resources, without ever forgetting to provide the best quality of service," she continues. "Our goal is to promote human rest as an essential moment that enables us to reconnect with ourselves, with those around us and with our environment."
