Lupin shares in focus after USFDA nod for drug to treat excessive daytime sleepiness

Lupin shares are likely to remain in focus in Tuesday’s trading session after the pharmaceutical major received final approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for its generic version of Pitolisant Tablets, a drug used to treat excessive daytime sleepiness.

Lupin announced that the USFDA has granted final approval for its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) covering Pitolisant Tablets in 4.45 mg and 17.8 mg strengths.

The regulator approved the tablets as bioequivalent to Wakix, for the indications specified in the approved product labeling. The approval strengthens Lupin’s generic portfolio in the US market and could provide another opportunity for the company to expand its presence in the specialty and complex generics segment.

Lupin Share Price, Valuation and Technical Setup

Lupin shares have remained largely range-bound in recent months, gaining around 1% over the past three months. However, the stock has delivered stronger returns over the longer term, rising nearly 15% in the last one year and about 107% over the past three years.

The company currently commands a market capitalisation of around Rs 1.03 lakh crore, while its 52-week high stands at Rs 2,529.

On the valuation front, Lupin is trading at a price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 18.48 and a price-to-book (P/B) ratio of 4.54.

Technically, the stock continues to show a cautious setup. The 14-day RSI stands at around 34.9, indicating weak momentum, although it is yet to enter the conventional oversold zone below 30. Lupin is currently trading below 7 of its 8 key simple moving averages (SMAs), with the stock holding above only its 200-day SMA, suggesting near-term pressure despite the longer-term trend remaining relatively stronger.

FII Buying, MF Holdings Fall

Shareholding data for the June 2026 quarter also showed mixed signals. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) increased their stake in Lupin from 21.70% to 22.42% during the quarter.

In contrast, Mutual Fund holdings declined from 16.93% to 14.84% over the same period.

With the latest USFDA approval adding a fresh product opportunity while technical indicators remain subdued, Lupin shares could see increased investor attention in Tuesday’s session.
