Luke Williams talks substitutions, Frank Vincent loan thinking and exciting attacking options

Luke Williams hailed his substitutes for making an instant impact in their comeback 2-2 draw with Chesterfield at Meadow Lane.

The Magpies found themselves 2-0 down just shy of the hour-mark, with goals from Liam Mandeville and Akwasi Asante putting Paul Cook's side in a comfortable position on what was a dominate display.

And just like the previous matches this season, Williams got his substitutions spot on once again, with Sam Austin and Cedwyn Scott coming on to swing the match back in Notts' favour.

Their impact was felt just a minute after coming on, with Scott involved in allowing Macaulay Langstaff to fire a shot beyond Ross Fitzsimons after a defensive mistake by the Spirerites.

And Austin got in on the act just three minutes later, providing an inch-perfect cross onto the head of Langstaff to breath new life into the Magpies and set up an exciting last 25 minutes.

And Williams was quick to praise his substitutes following their performance, saying: "Some days it does not work, but so far the guys off the bench have made an impact.

"When Kairo (Mitchell) came on against Boreham Wood and so on, and those substitutions made the difference again today.

"I thought Sam (Austin) came on and brought fantastic energy and made runs in the channels that created the goal. I thought Cedwyn (Scott) looked so threatening in the box too."

A front three of Langstaff, Scott and Austin is something Notts fans have wanted to see, and it proved to be effective, which has Notts fans excited

Williams eluded to potentially playing the trio going forward, and provided an encouraging update on the progression of Austin and Scott's fitness.

"The guys are getting up to speed. The Boreham Wood game was one too many for Sam, he was down on his usual energy, we rested him and he made a massive impact today.

"Cedwyn is getting closer and closer, I think Kairo did well when he came off the bench against Boreham Wood and Gateshead, so we are in a good position."

Prior to kick-off, it was confirmed that midfielder Frank Vincent was allowed to go on loan to fellow National League side Aldershot Town, with many fans questioning the decision to loan out 23-year-old.

But whilst it is one less midfielder within the Notts ranks, Williams insisted the move would be beneficial for both the Magpies, and Vincent himself.

"I think with Matty (Palmer) coming back into the fold, we have a lot of midfield players and they deserve to play, and selfishly I could have kept him.

"He is an incredible guy and he adds a lot. His attitude, the way he energises people on a matchday or in training. He is a young player that wants to play, but the move suits us and suits him.

"He will go there and play games, and we will see whether it could be longer, I am not ruling that out either."
