Notts County boss Luke Williams hailed defender Connell Rawlinson as a 'warrior' following his performance in their 3-1 defeat to Dorking Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.
The 30-year-old had not featured for the Magpies all season due to injury but was named on the bench for their win over Aldershot at Meadow Lane, coming on for the final half an hour to replace Richard Brindley who picked up an injury.
And the severity of that injury kept him out of the game against Marc White's side at the weekend. With Aden Baldwin also side-lined with another injury, the Notts boss had no choice but to throw Rawlinson into the starting side at Meadowbank Park.
In what turned out to be a disappointing display for the Magpies, Rawlinson can be proud of his performance and was arguably the best defender for his side that afternoon, despite conceding two late goals on his first 90 minutes in the National League this season.
And the Notts boss was quick to praise Rawlinson's performance, explaining: "Connell did fantastic, but it is probably a little too early for him still.
"But he is a warrior. He has had a long period out of the action, he got some action on Tuesday night against Aldershot, and then he played 90 minutes against Dorking on this surface, it is incredible."
We still wait to hear on the severity of Brindley and Baldwin's injuries that they sustained in the lead up and during their fixture with Aldershot, but another defensive casualty could have Williams worrying with not many reinforcements in his armoury.
