Arsenal are in need of a top-class striker this summer. Both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are into the final four months of their contracts with the club whilst Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was also allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window. One name that has consistently been linked with a move to north London is Real Madrid frontman Luka Jovic.
Considering he's under the age of 25, Jovic fits the criteria of Mikel Arteta and Edu's recent transfer strategy. However, he has endured a difficult time at the Bernabeu Stadium, scoring just three times for the Spanish giants since sealing a £56million move from Eintracht Frankfurt back in the summer of 2019.

Latest developments
A recent report from Marca claims that the Serbian international "seems doomed for an unsuccessful end" at Carlo Ancelotti's side and that, barring a major change in fortunes, will "pack his bags this summer". If the Gunners did make a move for the 24-year-old they would be getting a top-class player, if Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi is to be believed.
"A magical player who makes the impossible possible," Messi said when describing the talented frontman back in 2020.
Haaland and Mbappe impact
According to Fichajes, Arsenal are interested in signing Jovic in the summer transfer window. The report hints that Madrid are looking to sell the Serbian in order to raise funds for their respective pursuits of both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
Fierce competition
Fichajes also suggest that Arsenal are one of five teams thought to be interested in the forward alongside Atalanta, Hertha Berlin, Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund.
Although Madrid are open to selling the forward, the report states that they do not know whether Madrid will let him leave for a reduced price (thought to be between £16.7million and £25million).
Transfer collapse
Arsenal spent most of the January transfer window trying to sign Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina but Jovic's compatriot eventually moved to Serie A giants Juventus.
As reported by the Mirror, with Vlahovic out of the picture, the Gunners started looking into short-term solutions. A deal for Jovic had legs but an injury to French star Karim Benzema meant that Carlo Ancelotti needed Jovic for cover.
