Luis Suarez makes feelings clear on Erling Haaland as Man City star beats record

Former Liverpool star Luis Suarez congratulated Erling Haaland after the Premier League top scorer hit another hat-trick on Sunday.

Haaland, who joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund over the summer, has scored three hat-tricks in eight league games and 14 in total in the competition. He has also scored three times in two Champions League games for Pep Guardiola's club, two against Sevilla and once against former club Dortmund.

The 22-year-old scored his third treble in a 6-3 victory over Manchester United on Sunday, with Phil Foden scoring three goals of his own during the win. It saw him break multiple records, and Suarez was in no doubts about Haaland's quality after the game.

"Congratulations my friend! Amazing game for you," Suarez wrote under Haaland's Instagram post marking the hat-trick. "Best number nine at the moment."

Haaland's league tally puts him seven ahead of his closest challenger for the golden boot. He has also become the first player to score hat-tricks in three successive home games in the competition, and is the fastest to three Premier League trebles, consecutive or otherwise.

Suarez won the golden boot in the 2013-14 season, his final campaign in England with Liverpool, scoring 31 goals. At Haaland's current rate of scoring, he would reach that tally less than halfway into the 38-game season.

"Yeah, not bad!" Haaland said after extending his goalscoring run. "We scored six goals! What can I say. It's amazing.

"To win at home, score six goals, it's nice. You can feel it all the time. You can see the passes we give each other.

"We always want to go forward and to attack. It's what I love about the team. In the end, it's amazing. There is nothing more to say."

Haaland and Foden each scored twice in the first half to put Pep Guardiola's side out of sight against United. The pair each completed hat-tricks after Antony pulled one back for the visitors, with the game won before Anthony Martial added two late consolation goals for Erik ten Hag's team.

The result means City remain the only unbeaten team in the Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur losing for the first time in the competition on Saturday. However, Arsenal - who beat Spurs at the Emirates Stadium - remain a point clear of Haaland and his teammates at the top.

Next up for City is a Champions League game at home to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday as they look to continue their 100 per cent start in Europe. After that, they have another home game in store with Southampton the visitors to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
